The Ohnward Fine Arts Center
invites everyone 18 and older
to test their trivial knowledge

Saturday, October 25 at the
Ohnward Fine Arts Center.




Doors open at 6:00 pm and competition begins at 7:00 pm.
NO COOLERS WILL BE ALLOWED.
Beer, wine, soda, water, pizza, candy bars and popcorn will be available to purchase.



Those wishing to test their trivia knowledge can enter the competition by registering their team at the Ohnward Fine Arts Center between 9 AM and 1 PM Monday through Friday, or by calling 563-652-9815. You can also register at the door the night of the event.



There is a $10 buy-in for each team member; teams can range from 6 to 10 members. Individuals are encouraged to participate even if he or she does not have a team - just register at OFAC to join a team. Pre-registration is encouraged.



There will be ten categories and ten rounds of questions to be answered. Trivia Night provides some light-hearted competition for the know-it-all trivia junkies and some fun for those who simply enjoy supporting a good cause. Trivia Night will be hosted by Mister Trivia from the Quad Cities. Mulligans will be available, as well as a double sticker bonus can also be purchased. A 50/50 raffle will also be held.



Trivia Night is fun competition and entertainment for all who participate. Come to compete, come to cheer on your favorite team! A prize will be awarded to the first place team!!!!!



Prizes will be given out for the best Halloween costumes of the evening!!!!

Asher Schroeder - WWII Presentation



ASHER SCHROEDER, WHO WILL BE 89 IN MAY, 2014, WAS BORN AND RAISED IN MAQUOKETA. AFTER GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL IN MAQUOKETA HE WENT TO SERVE IN WORLD WAR II. AFTER THE SERVICE HE GOT HIS LAW DEGREE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA, WAS JACKSON COUNTY ATTORNEY FOR 3 TERMS AND WAS APPOINTED BY PRESIDENT JOHNSON TO BE A U.S. ATTORNEY FOR THE NORTHERN DISTRICT OF IOWA. UPON RETIREMENT, HE AND HIS WIFE CATHERINE RETIRED TO MAQUOKETA. THEY HAD 3 SONS. HIS WIFE DIED QUITE A FEW YEARS AGO AND HE REMAINS ACTIVE AS A MEMBER (PAST PRESIDENT) OF THE JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY AND TREASURER OF THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB. HE SERVED WITH THE US ARMY 4TH INFANTRY DIVISION AND IN 1944 WAS WOUNDED IN ACTION AND TAKEN TO A POW CAMP. HIS DESCRIPTION OF HIS MILITARY LIFE IN 1944 AND INTO 1945 WAS PRESENTED AT A JANUARY ROTARY MEETING AND AGAIN AT A MAQUOKETA STATE BANK STAFF MEETING ON JANUARY 31, 2014.

Maquoketa Chamber sells its building


The Maquoketa Chamber of Commerce has sold its building and plans to move into the Maquoketa Arts Experience Building across Main Street.

Healing Arts Therapeutic Massage bought the building at 117 S. Main St. for $30,000, according to Chamber Executive Director Tom Devine. He said plans call for the chamber to move into the arts facility at 124 S. Main St. in 60 days. Healing Arts was located at 124 W. Platt St. The business is owned by Dena Donatsch.

Devine said renovations have begun at the arts building to accommodate the chamber offices.
Devine said the chamber and arts group will remain separate entities but will be housed in one building.

Resident escaped, covered in Soot.
Explosion was also reported.

Maquoketa Fire Dept was called to a fire at the Quarter Deck Bar in Baldwin, Iowa Thursday, Jan 9, 2014  2:36 pm. Reports of Heavy Smoke. possibly caused buy a wood stove.
